What is the difference between direct lighting and indirect lighting in art?

i know direct lighting is when a light source is coming specifically from one side? so what is indirect lighting?

      Lighting just the subject matter but then will also reveal imperfections more graphic but then will also reduce the reverse can make the subject indirect lighting just the goal of another surface when properly.
