How far over the watts limit can you go with desk lamps?

Posted by admin
NFL asked:

I recently just purchased a desk lamp and put in a CFL bulb of 13 watts. After doing this, I noticed the box saying to use an 11 watt max for CFL bulbs. Do I need to run over to the store and get another bulb, or am I probably fine?
Thanks all for your responses. To answer Guru’s question, it takes both regular and CFL. It says the max for regular is 40 watts and the max for CFL is 11.

You are probably fine. I don’t understand why they would have such a limit. At 13 watts, it’s not a heat problem.
