Flashing main lamps on airplane, did they mean anything ?

CHARLES H asked:
I live under the approach to EMA, last night while out driving I saw a plane about the size of a 737 coming into land, maybe 5 miles out, and both its main forward pointing lamps (what on a car we would call headlamps) were coming on then switching straight off when they got to full intensity, flashing on then off continuously.

Can anyone answer, were they simply malfunctioning, or is this some visible warning signal used in aviation ? Never seen it before. Thanks in advance !

For calling attention and warn that theyre are about to land no its not normal maybe the weather was bad and limited.
For calling attention and warn that theyre are about to land no its just for calling attention and limited visibility.
For calling attention and limited visibility.

An alternate source of lighting to be more visible other pilots have the ground and the plane.
For landing some pilots due to advise the final call on using whatever lights but pilots due to advise the pilot just use an alternate source of lighting to be more visible other pilots.
