Do lava lamps work better the after a certain “break-in” period of use?

I just recently got a lava lamp and it didn’t seem to flow well the first few days of using it, but after a couple uses it has begun to work better. After about 6 hours of use it begins to slow down, but I think this might go away if this break-in period exists. Any ideas?
