Industrial Fluorescent Lighting

Sunday, November 29th, 2009
R. Neal asked:

Recent laws have been passed that require all incandescent lights to be replaced by 2010. Because of this, industrial fluorescent lights are going to play a major role in future lighting design for factories, warehouses, and office parks in need of new architectural area lighting systems. We strongly recommend that you urge your clients invest in new lights now in order to avoid possible part shortages that could impact those who wait until the last minute. RLLD Commercial Lighting understands that many of your clients may be reluctant to spend money during a recession. In reality, there is no better time than the present to propose to fluorescent light fixtures to clients whose genuine need and limited budget make them ideal candidates However, you can overcome their fears by showing your clients the many benefits that industrial fluorescent light fixtures bring to the table. Helping them understand how this evolving technology can actually help them recession-proof their businesses can function as a pivotal fulcrum that tips negotiations in your favor. Who wouldn’t want to invest in longer-lasting, energy efficient equipment whose reduced power consumption and lower maintenance cost will compound savings that pay back the value of the purchase order and potentially generates a revenue surplus? To help you show your clients this kind of savings/reinvestment potential, RLLD Commercial Lighting will provide you with a free photometric analysis of your client’s site. This schematic will itemize the exact number of industrial fluorescent light fixtures, their necessary CRI and LPW efficiencies, and point-by-point installment points so you can lay proof to your claims directly on the bidding table.

Industrial fluorescent lights last longer than other luminaires. Clients who enjoy wasting money on new equipment do not exist in our reality. People in our world buy things to last, and they expect their money’s worth anytime they spend it. Industrial fluorescent lighting will prove its value to these frugal clients the minute the lights power one. Clients will experience a light that is more comfortable to the eyes (generally industrial fluorescent lamps create significantly less glare), and lower electric bills. This is going to be a major turning point for contractors in cities such as Houston, TX. The city government here recently toughened up on LPW codes. In August, the new law mandates no more than.05 watt for ever lumen produced. With these changes on the near horizon, it is crucial for contractors in Houston and other similar major cities to propose lamps that will generate more light with less electricity. As a general rule, industrial fluorescent light fixtures feature a superb LPW and offer the additional benefit of cooler operating temperatures. For warehouses using currently using HID high bay and low bay lights, replacing existing fixtures with fluorescent industrial bay lights can lower the temperature within the building and generate further savings on HVAC cooling costs.

Fluorescent lights are found almost everywhere in the world of industry and distribution. Fluorescent industrial lights occupy the unique position of being some of the most diversified and versatile lighting sources in the world. You will find industrial fluorescent light sources in almost every indoor and outdoor lighting system. This is almost universally true in material handling, manufacturing, and shipping receiving companies who have to squeeze every penny on overhead to turn a profit. Because industrial fluorescent lights render color at only 8 points less than that of natural light, fluorescent low bays are an excellent line item to propose to any client that needs a better light source over an assembly line or work area characterized by highly detailed work or potentially dangerous tasks. For industrial site lighting, fluorescents perform competitively against a large percentage of HID area lights. In today’s energy and environmentally conscious marketplace, you see everything from industrial fluorescent bollards and decorative landscape lights to powerful fluorescent floodlights linked to motion detectors and advanced alarms. Warehouses commonly use industrial fluorescent wall packs for glare free, economic lighting around building perimeters and loading docks. Canopy lights with fluorescent lamps also serve as highly efficient and vandal-proof fixtures for industrial walkway lighting and parking garage lighting.

Fluorescent fixtures produce a higher quality of light than ever before. The stereotype of industrial fluorescent lights as headache generators have long since been overcome and disproven by newer, superior ballast technology that has made fluorescent light itself free of any flickering or yellowing effects such as those seen by their primitive forerunners of the past. Today’s fluorescents produce a comfortable, white, glare-free luminance that is easy on the eyes and fits hand in glove with glare and light pollution regulations. It is important to explain to your clients the differences between cheap, retail fluorescents that use inferior ballasts and specification grade industrial fluorescent fixtures. The all-American-made, specification quality fixtures that we supply to contractors feature the very best electronic ballasts in a variety of voltages engineered for superior electron flow, power management, exceptional CRI, and photometric delivery power. This represents the highest level of manufacturing and engineering quality in our industry; which is why so many general contractors and commercial builders rely upon RLLD Commercial as their exclusive vendor.

RLLD Commercial Lighting offers complimentary design services to all who purchase equipment. We have heavily invested in some of the world’s most advanced lighting design software so that you won’t have to. This software enables us to take basic raw data pertaining to your client’s facility, input that data into our system, and develop a point-by-point photometric schematic of an entire indoor and outdoor lighting design system. This schematic will fully address the many dynamics of LPW and light pollution requirements, your client’s budget, projected maintenance costs (if any), and lamp life requirements. For clients investing in industrial security lights, building lights, or sign lights, knowing the exact number and type of fluorescent fixtures necessary to fulfill luminance requirements can avert over purchasing and present a more streamlined proposal for you to bring to the table.

What type of lighting should i have in a 67 gallon tank with Cardinal Tetra’s fish?

Friday, November 20th, 2009
Mmmmm a bit fishy asked:

I have just bought a tank 36×18x24 and the light they gave me for it is 18 watt florescent light.
I personally think it is far to low for plant life.

I don’t want a bright tank because i have read Tetras do not like to much.
What would you advise for this tank?
Keeping in mind that i need light for a heavily planted tank.
Will my plants die with the lighting i have at the moment?

Custom Lighting Supply

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
Russell Neal asked:

Until Phantom entered the world of lighting manufacturing, architects, builders, and interior designers have had to rely upon lighting supply distributors whose first priority was to sell what was in stock. Custom orders have often been difficult to fill through these lighting supply sources simply because “brick and mortar” business models require existing, standard inventory be moved out the door first. Many distributors shy away from custom orders or professional lighting equipment because it is more expeditious and cost effective to move simple, standard fixtures out into the open market. While there is nothing wrong with this, the rise of the Internet now makes it possible to combine all of the strengths that traditional lighting supply distributors have previously been known for. There is a new generation of lighting fixture manufacturer that is dedicated to direct, initial personal consultation, targeted referral to the right technical specialist in our international distributor network, custom manufacturing per client demand, and rapid product delivery and support. As a result, specific benefits flow from this more efficient business model to a number of professions within the design community at large.

Phantom Lighting supplies custom lighting fixtures to architects who often find standard cove lighting fixtures too large and inflexible to install in eclectic interior architecture. In such instances, architects can turn to Phantom as a custom cove light supplier for high-end residential and commercial interiors. The Phantom CM series cove lighting fixtures offer a potential radius fit of up to 360 degrees, making it possible to bend the strip to fit the full circumference of a domed ceiling, or to wind it gently along the contours of a serpentine ceiling cove. This high level of adaptability makes the CM series flexible cove light the architect’s dream when it comes to lighting theme-oriented restaurant interiors such as Houston’s Aquarium. Because cove lighting strips are fully dimmable, the lighting intensity can be manipulated at will, making them ideal for ambient lighting in places of public entertainment, and simultaneously well-suited for the custom residential home market where lighting itself is a key element of interior decorating.

Architects can also create some very unique and sophisticated lighting effects with our Contour Projector products. These flush mounted ceiling projectors present a clean and sophisticated look, and can be fitted with gobos to project images onto walls in commercial environments. Perry’s steakhouse in Austin, TX recently did this. They had a pattern gobo made to represent their logo and projected it into the main lobby. Architects involved in restaurant and hotel planning can use this versatile combination of pattern gobo and projector to supply lighting effects that give their clients a winning, competitive edge in branding.

As a supplier of shelf and cabinet lights, Phantom offers the residential builder an enormous range of options for undercabinet lighting, kitchen cabinet lighting, truss lighting, and art lighting projectors. Phantom Lighting low voltage linear lighting strips are designed for all types of custom cabinet, display and task lighting applications.Phantom’s high-performance xenon linear lighting strips outperform inferior rope lights and provide a low-profile fixture with proven glare shielding. This is of vital importance to the builder working in the custom home market for a number of reasons. It is very difficult to control reflective glare produced by rope lights due to their unshielded design. They are difficult to conceal in many places, and they tend to have a relatively short life expectancy. As a better alternative, Phantom Lighting supplies a much more resilient and flexible strip that is already mounted onto an onboard glare shield, ready to produce shielded light the minute it comes out of the box. In addition to glare shielding, Phantom cabinet lighting systems are also built for concealment. Rather than using visible, external wiring to conduct current, our lighting transformer supplies power to festoon lamps along the strip through metal shelf supports and bus bars. As a result, this unique and patented design can be used as a light in or under any custom cabinet.

The Contour Projector allows builders to install something that sets the home apart. Many spaces in a new home like the fireplace, dining room, library, den, and family room are ideal spots for lighting fine art. Lighting supply companies normally offer builders eyeball lights to provide a general overhead light that will also illuminate images hung on the wall. The Contour Projector lighting fixture is a much more precision lighting instrument that uses a “lighted from within” effect to create a magical glow around the artwork.

Because of our strict policy of build-to-order manufacturing, lighting designers can rely upon our custom lighting supply process as a technical extension of their creativity. As artists, decorators have little time to waste muddling through tech-speak and complicated installation procedures. They need a lighting supply manufacturer that can provide them with technology that is sophisticated in its delivery power, yet easy to use. Interior designers are welcome to directly contact our headquarters to express their plans for interior design. After an initial consultation, our staff will direct them to the very best lighting agent in their area to meet their specific needs. This is more than simply a referral to a distributorship, because each Phantom Lighting Representative often represents multiple lighting suppliers, and consequently tends to specialize in one or more particular form(s) of lighting. Our aim is to get the designer to the right specialist who can intuitively grasp the creative intentions of their proposal and direct that energy into the most applicable hardware that will materialize the artist’s vision. This makes it so much easier for the designer to propose the wall art, furniture arrangements, draperies, and specialty displays most suited for the homeowner with the full confidence that Phantom Lighting will supply the very best art lighting projector or display lighting strip to showcase the designer’s masterpiece in an entirely new light.

Phantom Contour Projectors are “State of the art” optical framing projectors designed for fine art illumination. The user friendly design and high performance optics make this one of the most effective art lights on the market today! Our lighting supply resource network is especially useful to the interior designer in this last respect. Because so many decorators will hang fine art in dining rooms and libraries, and decorate mantles and fireplaces with small statues and three dimensional abstracts, it is often difficult to find an art projector light that will properly and safely illuminate the piece without clashing with the surrounding design scheme. Contour Projectors overcome this challenge by hiding near the ceiling and concealing not only themselves, but the actual light they project. Viewers never see the beam of light emanating from a recessed lighting projector. All they see instead is a statue or painting that appears to appears to glow with its own special aura of luminance over the fireplace, on the wall, or in the den.

What type of lighting is best for outdoor sporting events?

Monday, November 9th, 2009
James S asked:

Was just kind of wondering what type of lighting Professional sporting events use. Incandescent = cheapest, H.P.S. = most Lumens, M.H. = Best color. Need to light a few outdoor volleyball courts and don’t want to purchase something that will end up being either poor light quality or not enough lumens to light the entire courts.

Swimming Pool Lights - Turn Your Pool Into A Night Time Paradise

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Michael Peterson asked:

With the arrival of warmer weather comes the anticipation of your spring pool opening. With the swimming season stretching before you, you want to make the very most of your pool and enjoy it as much as you can before autumn arrives. One of the best ways to get more hours of use out of your pool each season is to make it as functional and fun at night as it is during the day. With a wide variety of different swimming pool lights available for pool owners to choose from, it’s easy to do just that. From underwater lights to floating lanterns, there is a multitude of styles and designs of pool lights in a rainbow of colors that will allow you to turn your pool into a night time paradise.

To prepare your swimming pool for night time use, it’s always a good idea to start by lighting up your pool deck. This will make it easier to navigate your way to and from your swimming pool and will also make your pool area safer for everyone. Fortunately, adding stylish and decorative lights to your pool deck doesn’t have to be expensive and doesn’t have to consume a lot of power. Many retailers of pool equipment and supplies offer solar deck lights that will brighten up your pool area without requiring any electricity. If your pool is fenced, you may want to consider pool lights designed to attach to deck posts or pool fencing. That way, your lights will be integrated into the overall pool setting.

Once you have arranged for your pool deck to be well lit, it’s time to consider the options for the pool itself. Having swimming pool lights directly in the pool will make night swimming easier and safer, and can also transform your pool into an eye-catching wonder. Even if you have an above ground pool, there are a variety of different lights available that you can use to bring your pool to life at night. For example, there are standard above ground pool lights that simply attach to the edge of your swimming pool and will brightly illuminate your pool. Above ground pool lights can also provide mood lighting, especially if you use lights that come with color lenses. Some above ground pool lights also come with a fountain attachment to create an even more impressive effect.

While there are swimming pool lights available that are designed specifically for above ground pools, there are also many different lighting styles and options that can be used for both above ground and in-ground swimming pools. Floating swimming pool lights are a particularly popular and economical form of lighting that can be used for any type of pool. Usually powered by batteries or solar power, floating pool lights can provide your pool with an intriguing ambience as well as light. Floating lights are available in round disc designs as well as in stylish lantern designs. With an entire spectrum of colors to choose from, you can easily use floating pool lights to transform your pool into a night time spectacle.

Underwater pool lights also provide a great way to make every night time swimming experience memorable. Particularly great for parties, underwater pool lights will create dramatic, dancing patterns of colorful light on the bottom and walls of your pool so that your entire swimming pool will be awash in light and color. Some underwater pool lights also come with a floating fountain, providing color changing cascades of water as well as a colorful underwater kaleidoscope effect. Often these lights will come with several different modes and settings so you can adjust the display to suit a particular mood or atmosphere.

When looking for swimming pool lights that will transform your pool into a night time paradise it’s always important to consider quality and performance so that you will get the best overall results for the best value. In order to feel confident with your purchase, it’s often a good idea to go with highly respected and trusted brand names that have established a solid reputation in the marketplace. Hayward, for example, is one of the best-known and most respected manufacturers in the pool supply industry. Hayward pool lights are available in a number of different models and designs and are known for their top-notch quality. Hayward pool lights that are readily available from many pool equipment retailers include above ground pool lights, niche lights and floating LED lights.

Whether you decide to go with Hayward pool lights or lights from another trusted manufacturer, you can create some truly impressive lighting effects for your swimming pool. While bright lighting for your deck and pool will make your pool area safer and will make night swimming easier, you can also use the available lighting options to do much more. With the help of swimming pool lights that provide different colors and dramatic effects, you can easily take your pool out of the dark and transform it into a dazzling night time paradise that will be the talk of the neighborhood.
