Purchase Rawhide Chandelier Lamp Shades For Southwestern Interior Design

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Craig Chambers asked:

Deciding to use rawhide and leather chandelier lamp shades for your wrought iron lamps is definitely the best way to get that fantastic western design you see in designer homes. Because they are an easy way to incorporate western style that combines well with wooden furniture and southwestern style accessories, many designers are choosing to use them in their home’s decor.

It is also very common to see these kinds of lamp shades used on large lamps in hunting lodges, western homes, and restaurants where a western or rustic design theme is used. You will probably be amazed at how easy it is to incorporate western design into your home by simply placing leather lamp shades on your chandelier lighting fixtures or other small lamps, or on lamps that require a smaller size western style lamp shade.

You will no doubt love the warm glow generated by the natural color of the rawhide and the welcoming ambiance it evokes no matter where you choose to place it. Rawhide chandelier lamp shades are without a doubt the best choice when wishing to design an elegant decorating flare without loosing western design.

A major reason these leather lamp shades are so sought-after for Spanish style chandeliers and other home lighting fixtures is because of the many options to choose from. When decorating with a particular color palette, you have the option of choosing a pig-skin shade in one of many colors to match, or the more rustic style rawhide shade.

It doesn’t matter which style of rawhide or leather chandelier lamp shades you need, you will certainly be happy with the style you can create with these shades. The fact that these chandelier shades are made by hand, gives them a certain uniqueness not found in commercially produced lamp shades.

Since they are each fitted with a special bulb clip, you will find it easy to turn even the smallest desk lamp or table lamp into a southwestern style lighting fixture. Try suspending a large wrought iron chandelier with leather chandelier lamp shades above an elegant dining table, or hung as the focal point in the front hall of a rustic style cabin.

You will like how it remarkably enhances your decor, bringing a welcoming environment and giving it a touch of rustic flare. It is the natural leather and rawhide that deepens the look of wood furnishings and rustic decor.

If you have been looking for the right lighting accessories to pair with rustic interior design, you will certainly enjoy the country style you can accomplish with leather shades. Because they are so versatile, chandelier shades will look amazing on lighting fixtures you already own, or on decorative metal chandeliers.

Not only do rustic chandelier shades give you the option of altering the style of your decorating, you will also enjoy how convenient it is to purchase them online. Find the perfect shade size for small lamps in several attractive styles and colors. You won’t come across a simpler way to add to the appeal of western home decorating than with the great style of rustic rawhide and leather chandelier lamp shades.

Why do most lamps have the holders for screw in bulbs and not bayonet?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Golden Meadows asked:

We bought an up-lighter and assumed it took bayonet bulbs. Found out it’s screw in bulbs so had to go back in town for a bulb.

Why do they use different types? Most main light fitting are bayonet and people have spare bulbs in for them. You have to buy separate types of bulbs for lamps.

Ambience Table Lamps: Produce Ambience in Your Residence With Desk Lamps

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Trevor Price asked:

Ambience table lamps are making a comeback as the ultra-cool design accessory in the shabby chic decorating trend. So, consider getting into that attic or digging out that crawl space to unearth those antique table lamps that your grandma left to you.

To learn how you can use antique or new table lamps to create ambiance and a cozy home feeling, keep reading for five great decorating ideas.

Lighting for the Living Room

Ambience table lamps in the living room serve two purposes - they’re decorative and they offer functional lighting without the need to turn on the bright overhead light. For example, if one family member is reading a book, but another wants the light low to prevent a glare on the television, directed side table lighting is the ideal solution.

For the right fit, look for table lamps that match your décor. Remember that you can often replace the lamp shades on most lamps and even make your own. Unless you’re shooting for a design statement, opt for a pair of lamps that are functional and attractive, but not over the top.

A Light for the Baby’s Room

Table lamps are great for kid’s rooms as bedside lamps. A small, shaded lamp is perfect for times when you need a little bit of light but don’t want to switch on the harsh and bright ceiling light. For example, when it’s time to wind down for bed and someone wants a story, a soft table light can be the best solution.

Children who are afraid of the dark will also appreciate the subtle light that’s provided by a bedside table lamp that can also be switched off from the bed rather than the wall outlet.

Task Lighting

Table lamps are great for task lighting. Anywhere you need directed and focused lighting that’s close to your work surface, a table lamp can do the job and reduce strain on your eyes. If you’re using a table lamp for task lighting, look for one that has a flexible head and neck, thus allowing you to direct the light on to your work surface.

Design and Decorative Purposes

Antique or refurbished lamps can be remarkably decorative and the perfect accent for a sideboard, dining room table or mantel. When turned on, they also offer a cozy glow, comparable to that provided by romantic candle light, but without the safety hazard.

Desk Lamps

Ambience table lamps are a much better office lighting solution than harsh overhead lights. The directed task lighting not only allows you to focus on your paperwork, but it can also reduce glare reflected from your monitor, thus preventing eye strain. Try two desk lamps instead of an overhead light and see the improvement for yourself.

Though lighting that has the primary purpose of setting a home mood is certainly not going to replace your main lighting options, it is nevertheless an attractive alternative to standard room brightening methods. Their popularity is only likely to increase.

Antique Table Lamps for Interior Design - Chinoiserie

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Maclyn Zaportiza asked:

Stylish table lamps are the key to a well furnished room and a major key to the stylish table lamp is the Chinoiserie style, a French term, pronounced “shin-wahz-ree” signifying “Chinese-esque” or “anything reflecting Chinese culture: Chinese artifacts, designs, artistic styles, behavior”.

Yet, to gain a richer understanding of this classic decorating style, we need to go back in history to the time of that intrepid traveller, Marco Polo. It was this famous Venetian who first opened the eyes of the West to the mysterious land, known to the Chinese as the Middle Kingdom or China.

Around the late 13th century, new and exciting products began to trickle into Europe from China, a land still hidden and virtually unknown to the West. Europe was fascinated by the exotic imports such silk, lacquered furniture and porcelain, all vastly expensive and purchased only by the wealthy social classes. These beautiful and curious objects led to the development of a European interpretation of Chinese decoration which the French called, “Chinoiserie”.

The mid 18th century saw a French, aristocratic demand for sumptuous interior design with various European monarchs, such as Louis XV of France, giving special favor to this exciting genre as it blended particularly well with the high rococo style of the day.

In true Chinoiserie fairyland, Mandarins lived in fanciful, mountainous landscapes with cobweb bridges. They carried flower parasols, lolled in flimsy bamboo pavilions haunted by dragons and phœnixes, while monkeys swung from scrolling borders, always delicately drawn and full of free flowing movement with beautifully balanced composition.

Chinoiserie quickly became the height of fashion, setting the interior design style of Paris, London, Berlin and St Petersburg, finding expression in mediums such as furniture, porcelain, wallpaper and fabric, to name just a few.

While the popularity of Chinoiserie may have peaked around the middle of the eighteenth century, its value as an arresting, interior decorative style has never waned.

For a classic or eclectic interior, fine antique table lamps of Chinoiserie style will quickly “pull the look together”, adding interest and an overall sense of high style. Reliable, decorative lighting specialists such as The Antique & Vintage Table Lamp Co are able to offer quality antique or vintage lamps or can source particular lighting requirements upon request.

Table Lamp Tips – remember that using a dimmer switch or simply changing the wattage of your bulb will significantly alter the mood of a room.

5 Easy Steps to Cleaning Your Lamp Shade

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
laqu7663a asked:

If you use lamps in your room, you can rest assure that the lamp shade is amongst the first things that catches the eye of the visitor. Lamps lighting attract immediate attention and if your lamp shade is covered in dust and grime, you can be sure it will be noticed. On the other hand, clean lamp shades create an impression of a clean and tidy room. Moreover, light is diffused more effectively when a lamp shade is clean. Here are the top 5 steps you need to take to ensure that your lamps are completely clean and grime free.

1. It is recommended that you clean all the lamp shades of your house at the same time and use a separate cleaning space like a kitchen counter or a laundry table to clean them. Remember to unplug the lamps before you start cleaning the lamp shades to avoid accidents. Cover the table with a clean cloth and line up all your lamp shades depending on their material, keeping fabric, glass, plastic and metal lamp shades separately.

2. Select cleaning products based on the material of the lamp shade. A mild detergent is sufficient for fabric and plastic lamp shades. A window cleaner is required for glass lamp shades and different metals will require different cleaning agents. Ensure that you follow the precise instructions provided with the cleaning agent and that you don’t overuse it.

3. You will need a scrub cloth and a cleaning cloth for every cleaning agent you use. First soak the scrub cloth in a cleaning agent and gently rub it on the lampshade to remove all the dirt, dust and grime from it. You will then need a cleaning cloth, soaked in water, to remove the residue from of the cleaning agent from the lamp shade.

4. After cleaning the lamp shade, you need to air dry them and ensure that there is no residual moisture on the lamp shade before you use it. Avoid placing the lamp shades in direct sunlight to be dried as this could lead to discoloration, especially in the case of fabric lamp shades. Also avoid the risk of getting an electric shock by ensuring that your lamp shades are thoroughly dry before you place them on the lamps.

5. While your lamp shades are drying, you can take the opportunity to clean the base of each lamp. Wipe the base thoroughly with a clean cloth or a mild cleaning agent and remove all stains and fingerprints from the surface along with dust, dirt and grime. This will help make your table lamps or floor lamp and their lamp shades look clean and pristine and you won’t have to worry about cleaning them again for the next few months.

Antique Lamps – Treen, Fine, Dark and Handsome

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Maurice Robertson asked:

There is nothing like the polished sheen on antique wood, lovingly polished with       bee’s wax for the past hundred, or even, the past two hundred years.  Over this long period of time a rich patination is left, the fine sheen of polished wood. This patina can never be successfully reproduced and is the result of elbow grease, wax and time!

Treen is a generic name for the small to medium, functional handmade objects made of wood.  Hence treen is distinct from furniture, chairs, tables etc.

The very word is antique! and is, in fact, a Middle English word from the 13th century, when treen meant tree, or wood.  The word is still in common use to describe small objects made in hand turned wood.  Wood, of course, being the major raw material for common domestic objects with turning and carving being the key skills.

Some rare examples of treen exist from the 15th century with most antique pieces being made in the 19th century.  These were made prior to the introduction of cheap metal wares and finally, plastics.  As the 19th century progressed, the “old fashioned” treen pieces were discarded for the new wares.

The Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co illustrate a very handsome, mid 19th century, English, urn shaped, fruit wood lamp.  The lamp on a short socle and standing on a circular base, the fruit wood, probably cherry wood.  The lamp fitted with a gold plated bronze cap.  This impressive lamp base with a height of 11”/ 28cm and a circumference of 21”/53cm, has been hand turned from a single length of fruit wood!  Circa 1850.  Overall height (including shade) 23″/58.5cm.

The lamp with a highly polished surface, the end result of a soft cloth and wax for the past 150 years.  The lamp is, of course highly functional, with a clean undecorated form, greatly admired by designers and collectors.

It is well worth recalling that antique pieces were made by master craftsmen and that in today’s world, hand crafted products like these have virtually disappeared.

Antique pieces not only reflect quality workmanship from an earlier time, but will increase in value, while a contemporary piece will depreciate every year.

There is a real pleasure in owning something that is unique and beautiful while remaining a useful asset to a family.  Antique pieces, such as table lamps, can do a lot for a modern interior, adding a much warmer element when integrated into a décor.  It is quite often a surprise to discover just how “at home” an antique piece can look in a modern interior.

The Antique & Vintage Table Lamp Co specialise in antique table lamp lighting with an on-line range of over 100 unique, antique and vintage lamps on view.

Lamps are shipped ready wired for the U.S, the U.K and Australia.
