Antler Lamps Dramatically Change Your Interior Design

Monday, December 15th, 2008
Craig Chambers asked:

Antler lamps are an excellent way to create western decor. Much more than a way to light your home, antler lamps add charm to your room. If you have a mountain cabin or southwest style home, the wonderful charm of antlers with their unusual shapes and variations in natural color will give your area the unique western style you desire.

Ranch style home owners as well as those constructing contemporary houses have used antler lamps for decades as the must have rustic lighting to enhance their ranch style home look. Because of the natural shape of antler lamps and chandeliers there is a rustic beauty in the antlers themselves that wonderfully accompanies any variety of rustic style furniture. There is something special about antler lamps that pulls every element together and gives off a sophisticated country feel in the room. Antler lamps have a unique quality about them that definitely creates rustic beauty in any environment.

Antler lamps also accompany many other rustic accessories in home interior design. In the Northwest or “north woods” antlers may be added to snow shoes and adorned with rawhide lamp shades to create fabulous wall sconces. The light wood and rawhide lacing on the shoe, together with the leather binding and luminous glow of the hand stitched shade, make it a fabulous harmony. Weather you choose to compliment your antler lamp with southwestern light rawhide shades or western style dark rawhide lampshades, the decision is yours and the effect will be stunning.

Smaller antler chandeliers are sometimes fashioned from whitetail deer antlers while larger chandeliers sometimes have several tiers of huge elk antlers. Weather your area is large or small an antler chandelier will create western style.

In Jackson Hole, WY the downtown is adorned with arches created from Elk antlers. It is definitely one of a kind and you can achieve the same look with antler lamps. Small lamps can be made from whitetail deer antlers while larger light fixtures such as chandeliers may have tiers of elk antlers adorned with rawhide lampshades. One of the most popular lamps is made with moose antlers, unmistakable with their beautiful dark palms and dark rawhide lamp shades.

Each year, groups and associations like the Boy Scouts will go looking for the prized sheds. If you ever discover antler sheds outdoors, it is an amazing occurrence. Antler lamps bring that same look in your home and can change your setting’s ambiance in a most exciting way.

Antlers are found in varying conditions that are graded like rare coins. The best quality is given an “A” grade. The grading criteria, indirectly, has to do with the how much time the sheds lie exposed on the ground before they are found. The more time they are left on the ground, the more they break down. Newer antler sheds will be dark brown in color. Sheds that are not discovered soon will start to bleach in the sun until they become a chalky white. Another factor they loose their value is because of chew marks from small animals and stains from wet ground or moss.

There are also different techniques for making the antler lamps themselves. Some lamp makers use glue to hold the antlers together. Others may join them together with rawhide thong for a western look. And some of the most attractive antler lamps may use a combination of glue, screws and lacing, with the holes closed up for a natural look. Better quality lamps will almost always include rawhide lamp shades.

Each antler is a little different than any other, so each antler lamp is a unique treasure and is absolutely fabulous for western lighting. Try antler lamps with rawhide lamp shades in your home to create true rustic charm and to give it that warm, inviting look and feel that everybody loves.

Sophisticated Home Decoration With Stained Glass Lamps

Sunday, December 14th, 2008
Andrey Sorokin asked:

Stained glass lamps give an old world charm, warm and calm feeling. They can be used to replace candles to eliminate the problem of lighting many candles and replacing them regularly. At the same time, it lends a warm and radiant feel to the room. When you install stained glass lamps, you will feel like you are living in another world. Air of your house will be kaleidoscopically colorful, when sun will glance at your place. There will be no grey sky and sad mood in your house!

Any room requires its own color filling. We are used that as a rule carpets, wall-papers, pictures, posters fulfill this function. But even our ancestors knew that stained glass could make the most modest interior fascinating. It turns out, that these “colorful glasses”, attributes of Gothic cathedrals and art exhibitions, are quite appropriate in our houses and apartments. Static yet colorful, stained glass lighting is very pleasant to look at. These fixtures include floor lamps, ceiling fixtures, and table lamps in Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Mission, and Victorian styles.

Stained glass lamps are lamps which shades are made of stained glass (many pieces soldered together). Some stained glass lamps have stained glass bases as well. For over 100 years Tiffany lamps and lighting have been an essential part of a luxurious home decor. These stained glass lamps are from the style and design of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848 - 1933). Louis Tiffany used his creative talents to follow his love for art, instead of following in his father’s

footsteps.

The first Tiffany lamps were made at the beginning of the 20th century. Each lamp was made by hand and reflected the work of the individual artist. The base of the lamp was typically made of brass or bronze. It should be pointed out that several copies of a particular design were made but the lamps were never mass produced. Even though several copies of a pattern were produced, each lamp shade has a one of a kind feel imparted by the individual artist. Tiffany stained glass lamp shades are constructed from hand cut, polished and shaped pieces of stained art glass. Copper foil is wrapped around each piece of glass, glued together then soldered with lead. You may observe some lines, seeds or bubbles in the glass… these aren’t defects, but natural beauty of

the glass.

There are so many modern stained glass lamps around but nothing can beat the finesse of Tiffany stained glass lamps, which are in a league of their own. It’s quite relieving to know one can buy Tiffany reproduction stained glass lamps in almost every original style and color. Tiffany style stained glass lamps have set up their own niche in the world of glass-making. You can find Tiffany reproduction stained glass lamps in almost any type of room, from restaurants to prestigious buildings, from homes to offices and other professional meeting rooms.

Today’s contemporary versions of these decorative Tiffany floor or table stained glass lamps tend to be much more refined in design and also the glass panes that comprise the shades also tend to be more brightly jewel toned then in past decades. Tiffany stained glass lamps are beautifully detailed and adorned often with images of nature such as the dragonfly, peacock feathers, wisteria flowers and blossoms. It is hard not to be drawn into their beauty and is it easy to see how they also double quite easily as an ornamental

object during the day.

If you appreciate the beauty of illuminated colored glass then a Tiffany stained glass lamp is what you’re looking for. The vibrant colors of the stained glass lamp glowing in a darkened room are mesmerizing to the eyes of the beholder. The light bursting from Tiffany stained glass lamp shades is so intense, you find yourself questioning how such a tiny light bulb can cause such intensity of light! Tiffany stained glass lamps create a dramatic effect to any room.

The nice thing about Tiffany stained glass lamps, no matter what era it is from, is that it can reflect little coin or diamond shaped shards of light that can end up on your wall. This gives any room a very cozy and elegant touch. Tiffany stained glass lamps are also very nice to read by as the light from them is bright, but has a soft quality. Tiffany stained glass lamps also look best in a dark corner where they can shine in their full glory.

The less clutter that is around Tiffany stained glass lamps the better they look. Most have very elegant stained glass lamp bases as well that are reminiscent of flower stems or curved like swan’s necks. These gorgeous stained glass lamps can quite easily make a tacky looking kitchen appear more expensive, a recreation room seem cozier and a dining room seem like the height of elegance. No matter where Tiffany style stained glass lamps are

placed, they definitely add a touch of class. Tiffany lighting fixtures come in beautiful colors and designs to complement any style of home decor.

For something a little more sophisticated but still fun and reminiscent of a more tropical place, you might be inspired by a Tiffany style palm tree lamp. Staying true to the elegant design of the original artist, this Tiffany style palm tree lamp is made up of stained glass mosaic tiles perched atop a sturdy copper or iron base.

Sunday, December 14th, 2008
zigzags4556 asked:

I’ve already purchased a under the tank heating pad that covers about 1/3 of the tank. Will I need heat lamps to go along with this heating pad? If I do need them will I need more than one for a 20 gallon tank? And also what heat bulbs are good for nightime warmth?

Lamps for Interior Design

Friday, December 12th, 2008
Maurice Robertson asked:

Just like the “cherry on top of the cake” table lamps are the finishing touch to an interior.  For the eclectic and for the classic interior design, the ultimate is the antique lamp.

Interestingly, antique or period lamps offer a much greater range of shapes, designs and styles than the range offered by contemporary table lamps, which inevitably take on a rather uniform look, in vogue with current style.

The Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co offers a range of over 100 antique lamps.  Each lamp is individually designed, producing a unique table lamp in every sense of the word.

The company offers antique and decorative English, French, Chinese and Japanese lamps in a range of porcelain, glass, bronze, cinnabar, treen, marble, pottery and even papier-mâché!

Sophisticated interior design requires thoughtful and subtle lighting.  To over or under light a beautiful interior is to detract from the finished effect.  The great benefit of table lamp lighting is that it is easily portable, allowing for lighting to be repositioned producing the most satisfactory outcome.

Antique and decorative lighting is primarily a personal choice, from the perfectly understated white lamp, through to the highly decorative, four coloured Japanese Imari lamps, all available from the decorative lighting specialists, The Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co.

Please remember that The Antique & Vintage Table Lamp Co, ship lamps,

Advantages of Fluorescent Lamps

Thursday, December 4th, 2008
SearchMedia asked:

Fluorescent lamps are very often used types of lamps of today. They are well known and often used types of lamps because they have a lot of advantages over other types of lamps such as incandescent lamps. While incandescent lamps are banned in many countries today, fluorescent lamps are the type of lamp that is used instead of incandescent lamps. Therefore fluorescent lamps can be found all over the world and in lots of different applications.

In general fluorescent lamps have some advantages that make them an often used type of lamp in contrast to other types of lamps such as incandescent lamps. One of these advantages is that fluorescent lamps are more efficient than other types of lamps such as incandescent light bulbs of an equivalent brightness. In general this can be explained as a greater proportion of the power that is used is converted to usable light and a smaller proportion is converted to heat. This allows the fluorescent lamp to run cooler. In contrast to that the incandescent lamp produces a lot of heat while producing visible light. While a typical 100 Watt tungsten filament incandescent lamp usually converts only 2,6% of its power input to visible light, it is between 6,6% and 15,2% of power input that will be converted to visible light by a typical fluorescent lamp. A further advantage of a fluorescent lamp is referring to its durability. Generally a typical fluorescent lamp lasts between 10 to 20 times as long as an equivalent incandescent lamp. While fluorescent lamps usually have higher initial costs, these costs are more than compensated by the lower energy consumption this type of lighting has over its life. It is also the longer life such a type of lighting has that reduces lamp replacement costs.
