What are some types of home lamps that don’t generate heat while still being bright?

Monday, April 28th, 2008
White Bred asked:

In my room I have two lamps, each has two bulbs of 60 watts each. In the summertime by room bakes from these lights. What I need is something that will light up my room (Two lamps would be good, but a third if necessary). Something that will light up the room, but it would be great if they were clear or white light, as opposed to yellow. Style of the item, or spacing or anything is not that important. Anyone know of any brands that have these, or any website or stores where I can get them? Thanks!

Do light bulbs in lamps get looser?

Monday, April 28th, 2008
bill w asked:

…every few months, I have to tighten the light bulbs in my lamps. If I forget, eventually, they get so loose that they stop lighting up. I’m the only one living in my place. How are they loosening themselves? Vibrations from traffic?

Do wicks ever need replacing in kerosene lamps?

Saturday, April 12th, 2008
Scoop81 asked:

I have stored several kerosene lamps and lanterns for about 30 years — firing them up when electrical outage occurs. Last week I lit three lanterns, but they had weak, rather red flames — not bright yellow. Do I need to replace the wicks?
