Are ultraviolet lamps really good as disinfectants?

I wish to keep my house totally disinfected, free from any small germs. I have heard that switching on ultraviolet lamps (when I would not be in the house) will clean my house of all germs. I have also seen these things in hospital operating rooms, etc. Are these things really, really effective?

      yes,
      but if you make your home totally germ free you will get sick every time you go out side,
      your body has to have some germs to keep you healthy

      The intensity wavelength and how long its on will determine how it kills some things are harder to have around if you want sunlight is very effective for many types of decontamination yes but theres no sense in moldy tb infested pit either lol uv is not effective for many types of decontamination yes but is used for every.
