While a typical 100 Watt tungsten filament incandescent lamp usually converts only 2,6% of its power input to visible light, it is between 6,6% and 15,2% of power input that will be converted to visible light by a typical fluorescent lamp. A further advantage of a fluorescent lamp is referring to its durability. Generally a typical fluorescent lamp lasts between 10 to 20 times as long as an equivalent incandescent lamp. While fluorescent lamps usually have higher initial costs, these costs are more than compensated by the lower energy consumption this type of lighting has over its life. It is also the longer life such a type of lighting has that reduces lamp replacement costs.
